What is your greatest sporting success?
Finishing sub 8 hour in the Axtri triathlon was decent achievement. In paragliding, winning the national cross country competition (national flights) in 2017 was a nice accomplishment, though my most remarkable season was 2018 where I reached a podium place in three out of four categories; in the national cross country competition, national flights (2nd) and international flights (3rd) and the Dutch flatlands championships (2nd).

When and why did you start paragliding?
About ten years ago. Standing on top of the mountain, enjoying a spectacular panoramic view, an eagle flew over. A paraglider followed in his wake and I decided I wanted that too.

What is your mountaineering experience?
Multi-day hikes in mountainous areas, sport climbing and of course hike and flying.

What does your typical training week consist of?
Since pre-registration for the X-Pyr, predominantly long-distance running with a back-pack gradually increasing in weight. In spring, swimming is also included in the training program and of course flying.

What are your best and worst sporting memories?
In paragliding, the whole process of improving my skills is a continuous pleasure. Each flight adds to that. Waking up in the hospital after an unfortunate start was no fun but that also taught me.

Why did you choose X-Pyr?
Because the X-Pyr has a large scenic playing field and is a multiple day adventure. It is about covering distance across spectacular surroundings and remote areas.

Have you participated on X-Pyr before?

Have you flown in the Pyrenees before?

What will your strategy be during the race?
When not flying; run when necessary, rest when possible. Keeping myself motivated by appreciating the setting and assimilating the vibe from the mountains.

What excites you most about X-Pyr?
It is a true adventure. Nothing is prearranged.

What scares you the most about the event?
Strong wind.

Why will he/she make a good assistant?
Hugo is objective and realistic. At the same time, he is determined and has an adventurous mentality.
He is a very experienced and skilled pilot and has been a supporter before in the X-Alps (Ronny Geijsen).
