MAXIME PINOT / JÉRÉMIE LAGER
"I will be far more prepared than last time."
What is your greatest sporting success?
Winning the World Cup Superfinal and the 2nd place at the Red Bull X-Alps
When and why did you start paragliding?
When I was 13 in 2005. My dad was flying, and I had to wait until the legal age to start
What is your mountaineering experience?
I don't practice alpinism but I'm confortable with beeing in the mountains. I spend a big part of my trainings and time doing trail running, skitouring, xc skiing. And Hike&Fly of course
What does your typical training week consist of?
My base is doing around 10h of endurance training a week. But I build my planning regarding the goal. Some volume week, I increase training reaching 20 to 25 hours out in the nature.
One of the big parameters is vertical. I try to do around 250 000m a year.
Spring, Summer and autumn I run or do Hike and fly a lot. During winter, I build my endurance a lot on xc skies, and also on skitour.
Flying training is a mix between high level comps, cross country, and hike&fly specificities. But this year I will emphasis again on World Cups to be at my best in the air.
What are your best and worst sporting memories?
Best: Being the last pilot in the air in the last task of the Superfinal I won.
Worst: Flying 10 tasks in the World Championship 2015 with an uncompetitive wing... so frustrating
Why did you choose X-Pyr?
Because I really like the race and the Pyrenees. It is more savage than the Alps, more remote. And this year the field of pilots is high.
Have you participated on X-Pyr before?
Yes in 2018. It was a cool experience, we've learn a lot of this race for the X-Alps.
Have you flown in the Pyrenees before?
Yes, X-Pyr all the way.
What will your strategy be during the race?
Strategy always depends on all the parameters you encounter. So, we'll see.
I will be far more prepared than last time. So now, the idea is to be as efficient as possible with the team.
What excites you most about X-Pyr?
Crossing an entire chain of mountains is always something special.
I'm excited to go back to the remote places your encounter on the way. I'm also super excited to test new things, new tools, be more efficient.
What scares you the most about the event?
Nothing really scares me. I know the race, and it is a really tough one. Shorter than X-Alps, but Pyrenees conditions can be really more demanding. You can count a bit less on your crew because the roads are difficult. It is challenging and I like it that way.
Why will he/she make a good assistant?
Because we did all our Hike and Fly races together. Jeremie knows me perfectly, and it is true the other way around. He is an incredible pilot so he can help me a lot also on choices. I would'nt do the race without him because it is too much fun.
