MANUEL BUSTOS / ISRAEL GONZÁLEZ
"Everything about this race appeals to me, the environment in which it takes place, the level of the riders, the challenge it represents for me and my partner, etc"
What is your greatest sporting success?
I've been on the podium in some mountain races. Also in military triathlon years ago. But I'm left with enjoying every moment practicing what I love.
When and why did you start paragliding?
I started in 2.007 when I was accompanying my uncle while he was starting. That's when I started flying.
What is your mountaineering experience?
Mountain races, mid-mountain bivouacs, sport climbing
What does your typical training week consist of?
I try to alternate running, hike&fly in the mountains near my city and once a week I do strength training. I also try to take care of the food as much as I can.
What are your best and worst sporting memories?
I have very good memories of my beginnings and the progression, almost everything around the glider is good, at least for me. Bad memories, losing someone close to you while flying.
Why did you choose X-Pyr?
It always caught my attention and I've always wanted to do a "great" race in which the essence of this sport prevails, "you, your paragliding as a means of transport and nature". If you can also do this by measuring yourself against such great pilots, it's the best.
Have you participated on X-Pyr before?
I was never that lucky
Have you flown in the Pyrenees before?
Yes, in 2.011 I flew in the area of Castejón de Sos
What will your strategy be during the race?
If the weather is good, the intention is to try to fly as long as possible, an early glide and a good flight at midday. I guess like all teams, walk the minimum and fly the maximum.
What excites you most about X-Pyr?
Everything about this race appeals to me, the environment in which it takes place, the level of the riders, the challenge it represents for me and my partner, etc
What scares you the most about the event?
In principle the only thing that worries me is suffering any injury in training that prevents me from reaching 100% at the start of Hondarribia, but that will not happen. I hope all the teams do well.
Why will he/she make a good assistant?
We've known each other for years and we usually fly together many days. He also practices several other sports in nature and is a nurse. I think he is a very prepared person physically and mentally for a career of this magnitude. I can only speak well of him, I think we will make a good team.
Anything else you like to comment?
I wish all participants and the organization the best. May everything go well and we enjoy it very much.
