INTERVIEW

What is your greatest sporting success?
Crossing the alps (North->South) only by foot in under 5 days (2 times) and flying FAI 200km+ in the alps.

When and why did you start paragliding?
In 2004, my parents were paragliding pilots themselves 😉

What is your mountaineering experience?
Several alpine crossings by foot, hiking and trailrunning, (ski-)touring.

What does your typical training week consist of?
I love to be outside and to train every day. At least 4-5 times (trail-)running and 2-3 times on the bike. 2017 i ran 2.100km in distance and 40.500m in height. Not to forget: fly as much as possible.

What are your best and worst sporting memories?
Finishing my first 200km+ FAI was surely one of the best.
One of the worst would be a severe knee injury in 2012.

Why did you choose X-Pyr?
I love the Pyrenees, I love to hike and I love to fly. This surely are the major reasons besides the thing to fly among the best in this sport of course.

Have you participated on X-Pyr before?
No and i am excited to do so this year!

Have you flown in the Pyrenees before?
Yes and i loved it so much!

What will your strategy be during the race?
To enjoy everything, even the walking as much as possible. On the other hand, of course, flying is the primary option. Besides the fact that this is a hard competition, i think "having fun" is the best strategy

What excites you most about X-Pyr?
The adventure itself: To be out in the nature, to fly in one of the most beautiful landscapes the world has to offer, the pain and the reward..

What scares you the most about the event?
Scared would not be the correct definition: It's more about the respect, how nature can hit you in the balls sometimes.

Why will she make a good assistant?
Because we already know that we are capable of solving tricky situations and forming a good team. Of course, she knows me best and knows what to do when it comes to starvation, tiredness and stress. Besides that, we already managed to overcome long distances and the mere presence of her motivates me to do my best, thats why i am sure that she is the perfect supporter in this race.

Anything else you like to comment?
I will hate to see the bills for new running and hiking shoes this year 😉
