What is your greatest sporting success?
First ascent on NW face of Ri Wu Qie (6376m) in Daxue Shan Range of Eastern Tibet via "Black Wolves and Blue Poppies" M6 AI6 ca 1200m.

When and why did you start paragliding?
I began flying Hang Gliders in 1993 and paragliders in 2010.

What is your mountaineering experience?
I have been climbing for 28 years and now am a professional Alpinist and rock climber. Although I love to climb rock and ice, my greatest passion is for attempting new routes in the Greater Ranges of the world.

What does your typical training week consist of?
Maintenance weeks are far different from peak weeks during training but I trail run in the mountains, hike and fly, and train at the gym almost daily. Training for me is a full time job. If I'm not on an adventure, I'm training.

What are your best and worst sporting memories?
My best sporting memories might involve a 3000m wing suit BASE jump, the first time I climbing El Capitan in Yosemite in less than a day, a first ascent in the Himalaya or a 10.5 hour flight in my paraglider in Quixada. It's hard to quantify "best after 25+ years of adventures. Worst sporting memories involve loosing friends while doing what we love doing.

Why did you choose X-Pyr?
I've dedicated my entire life to climbing and flying in the mountains. The X-Pyr is a perfect adventure to combine these two loves while sharing an incredible experience with my fellow competitors in a beautiful place!

Have you participated on X-Pyr before?
No. This will be my first X-Pyr race.

Have you flown in the Pyrenees before?
I've flown all over the world but the Pyrenees is a range I have very little time over. I'm looking forward to the discovery most of all!

What will your strategy be during the race?
My mantra for any type of adventure or expedition like this is to "try hard and have fun". I feel like if I solve problems one at a time and remember to laugh as much as possible, I'll have a good race. Of course, I'm training very hard as well!

What excites you most about X-Pyr?
The adventure involved in trying to race across Spain in the best and most efficient style possible!! Also, the beauty of the mountains and the strategy involved;-)

What scares you the most about the event?
It's a tie between the possibility of bad weather and the technology;-) Ha ha ha

Why will he/she make a good assistant?
Dustin is very strong, holds the current world record for distance in a hang glider, has flown paragliders for 19 years and knows weather as well as anyone relative to the type of flying we do. We are very good friends, have competed and traveled the world together and I trust him implicitly.

Anything else you like to comment?
I can't wait!!
