INTERVIEW

What is your greatest sporting success?
Competitions:
-Multiple podium places in Skimountaineering-races (including 1st Place Patrouille des Glaciers 2014)
-Multiple podium places in Hike&Fly-competitions (e.g. 1st place Gantrisch H&F 2017, 2nd Place at Run&Fly Jura 2014, just 6 months after I got my pilots license)
Other successes:
-Various hard or long mountain climbs in the alps.
-Managed to stay alive.

When and why did you start paragliding?
I started Paragliding in 2013. First, the idea was to make the descents after climbing easier and faster. I soon figured out that thermalling and xc-flying is a lot of fun too and soon started doing hike&fly.

What is your mountaineering experience?
It's quite extensive, before I started Paragliding I was a die-hard Alpinist. Some sucesses: Eiger North-face (2x, in 1 day), Matterhorn North-Face, Grandes Jorasses North-Face, Ski-ascension of Mt. Blanc in 1 day, Peuterey-Ridge on Mt. Blanc,... I'm also instructor for alpinism and skimountaineering and in the swiss alpine rescue.

What does your typical training week consist of?
Doing a lot of endurance training, mainly Hike&Fly, Skitouring or Trail-running. Occasionally some weight-training in the gym, and of course, flying as much as possible.

What are your best and worst sporting memories?
Best: Winning the PdG and coming in 2nd at my first Hike&Fly-competition. Summiting the Eiger at 9 o'clock in the evening after climbing it's north face. Worst: Being injured for 6 months after 2 accidents in row. Getting caught in a massive thunderstorm on a very exposed ridge.

Why did you choose X-Pyr?
Because it's a new experience and a great challenge!

Have you participated on X-Pyr before?
No.

Have you flown in the Pyrenees before?
No.

What will your strategy be during the race?
Be smart and efficient on the ground, fly fast & safe. Try to Keep up with the big guys 😉

What excites you most about X-Pyr?
A great challenge in an unknown mountain range! Push myself to my limits and see what happens.

What scares you the most about the event?
Being grounded for days because of sketchy flying conditions.

Why will he/she make a good assistant?
My assistants know me very well. They have experience in supporting at hike&fly-races and they are creative. And they are excited for the adventure X-Pyr just as much as I am!

Anything else you like to comment?
Can't wait for the race to begin! See you at Hondarribia!
