What is your greatest sporting success?
In 2013 I climbed Mount Everest from both the Nepali and the Chinese sides for the first time in the same season. Between these two ascents there were only 8 days difference.

When and why did you start paragliding?
It was an efficient and safe way to descend the mountains I climbed.

What is your mountaineering experience?
I started climbing 23 years ago. I have been to the top of the Everest in 5 ocassions, I have climbed several 8000+m and dozens of mountains in every continent.

What does your typical training week consist of?
On week days I do a training like the one you do for an ironman, an ultra-distance triathlon. On weekends I climb Mexico's volcanoes and fly XC.

What are your best and worst sporting memories?
The best one was the moment I spent on the top when I finished my double Everest ascent in 2013. The worst was during the Nepal earthquake in 2015. I was at the Everest once more. Thousands of peopple lost their lives, an avalanche destroyed the base camp and the whole route we had prepared. We couldn't descend.

Why did you choose X-Pyr?
I see it as a big challenge which combines two of the activities I like best: Flying paragliders and climbing mountains.

Have you participated on X-Pyr before?
No, it is my first time.

Have you flown in the Pyrenees before?
I haven't had the honor yet.

What will your strategy be during the race?
To make the best flights possible but taking advantage of my mountaneering experience and journeys of non stop walking.

What excites you most about X-Pyr?
The extraordinary competition level, the organisation, the competition prestige and the traverse of the Pyrenees.

What scares you the most about the event?
The advantage local pilots have for knowing the Pyrenees in detail.

Why will he make a good assistant?
Alejandro González Medina has got years of paragliding experience. He is also a very experienced climber and in adventure sports. I believe his skills and knowledge are an excelent complement to my own. However, his attitude and personality will be essential to provide support during the difficult times in the competition.
